5AM MUSINGS Oct. 29th, 2009 @ 05:38 am
Woke up at 5am today, made me some Thera flu of the apple cinnamon variety and some soup. I'm actually not feeling too bad about it. I feel awake and slightly refreshed.

Went to check up on the ol' website statistics. Have about 120.6k hits this month. Considering I didn't get to finish my daily blog entries, I'd say that's pretty good! Yesterday alone I had over 10k in hits. Not sure what happened there! But no complaints. I really need to get my new site up and working but I have a profile picture in mind that I want done. It would require me to travel since I have a photographer in mind for it and it's not something that I would express to many photographers given the nature.

I can see who goes to my website via livejournal since your friends pages are referral links. This isn't information that I disclose or anything, in fact, the only reason I'm even bringing it up is because of a person in particular going to my website a bit.

Seriously, if you want to keep checking up on me... why not just like... you know... message or call me (my number hasn't changed)? Seems like a strange concept I know. But remember that you ended the relationship. Not me.

Anywho, lol public entries. I have one last form to fill our for my company, which will be filled out and filed today. My banker was amazing for being so helpful. Chase might suck balls with personal checking, but small business checking, they have been great so far. Adam and I will be heading into the city later on today to meet up with a buddy of mine from the UK who is visiting. I'll get lots of nice photos for my blog. Hopefully it won't rain too much today. If anyone wants to hang out, hit me up.

I have a few hours...maybe I should set up my new hard drive and Windows 7 :B

Once a Day Photopost moved to November. Oct. 22nd, 2009 @ 01:28 am

Due to computer problems, I am moving my once a day photopost to November as I have missed many days already. I have a new hard drive with Windows 7 (had to sit through a 6 hour seminar for that) sitting on my desk and will be implemented in the next week. Thirty new photos for November.

I’m sorry for any disappointments this may have caused.

caticonI know my photo today is severely late, for that I am sorry, but I got home about an hour ago and left around 8am. But I hope you all find this picture interesting regardless!

Meet Midna! She belongs to my friend Erica. When I first met her, she was incredibly shy and scaredy, it was impossible to take her photo. As time grew on, she grew more comfortable around people and would come out and let people pet her. Black cats in general are incredibly hard to photograph. In fact, I owned a black kitty once and said never again. If I’m going to own a kitty, she better be photogenic. Now that I have better equipment and a pretty amazing speedflash, I can get really nice photos of Midna for everyone to enjoy.

daniconjohniconToday I need to take it easy, so I’m posting an older photo. Since I am cheating, I’m posting two photos today. Meet my uncles Dan and John. Dan (the one on the left) is the man who introduced me to conventions. He and I share many things in common. He nurtured my love for anime and Star Wars. He’s incredibly crafty and works well with an assortment of materials. John (the on of the right) is incredibly intelligent. He spent three years in China setting up cell phone towers and spreading the word of God. While he and I do not share the same Religious ideals, we have many a good discussions. John lives near me in Jersey while Dan lives in Iowa, where I spent my high school years.

Both my uncles are photographers. Really good ones too. Sometimes they put me to shame. In the Midwest, my step dad’s side of the family is a bit notorious and everyone recognizes a member of his family when they see them. They all look so much alike. My uncles are a lot of fun and I like visiting and spending time with them. Both of them have a big hand in the things I enjoy and the stuff that I pursue (even though they both shoot Canon).

My uncles are one of a kind and I miss them dearly. The story behind the photos is that John (on the right) mouthed off something smart ass to Dan (on the left) and Dan didn’t think it was too funny, but John sure did.

priesticonLast night I attended a Mass (as in Church) for the first time in over nine years. It wasn’t a terrible experience, I actually enjoyed it. It was hard work and I was exhausted afterward, but good to know nothing has really changed since my absence. I was asked to take photos of the Mass by one of my clients because it was a big deal in their culture. Monday is a big holiday for them (not Columbus day).  The Mass was in Portuguese, so I only understood so much. I went to Catholic school for ten years, church 3-4 times a week. Yeah…

Anywho, this photo was taken at the gorgeous St. Patrick’s Cathedral near Rockefeller Center. The priest was a very nice man, I met him briefly after the ceremony. The Mass itself was about two hours. Trying to keep up with the many things going on definitely gave me a run for my money. All in all it was a nice experience, though I don’t plan on making a habit of it.

The lighting was terrible, so I had to shoot ISO 1250. Wish they had let me use my tripod.

ringiconI was going to post something else today, but I have a job tonight and so I will post that on Monday. Today I will post one of my photos from my last visit to my jewelry client http://www.tre-femmes.com She is my most regular client and I love coming up with new ways to take photos of her gorgeous jewelry. This photos isn’t a good representation of some of her more extravagant work so much as a nice photo that I had taken.

I have shot quite a bit for her over the past year and most of the photos on her site now are all photos that I have taken. Feel free to visit her site and have a look around.

birdicon2If you haven’t noticed it at this point, I love shooting pictures of birds. To me, they are incredibly dynamic. In fact, the photo that made me want to be a photographer was a photo I took of a seagull. I love wings a lot. The way they move is so breathtakingly artistic.

This little guy was singing his heart out in Central Park. I was lucky enough to catch his delightful tune. Igot a photo of him taking off as well, but it’s slightly blurry and I do not post blurry photos, no matter how much I might like them This is my first vertical photo post!

spidericonThe picture today gives me the willies! I had a lot of trouble editing it because of how creeped out I am of spiders. This guy was about an inch and a half long. The web was HUUUUUUUUGE. He has a buddy next to him too that was a bit smaller. I was so worried that one of them was going to jump at me and bite me ;~;

Sometimes we have to leave our comfort levels as photographers and take photos of things that make us uncomfortable or nervous.

birdiconMoving along to the seventh photo, the whole time I was editing this one, I had that one Cowboy Bebop song stuck in my head that plays when Spike falls out of the window. Dont’ ask me why. I have no answer.

I like this shot a lot, though I wish the bird was in a different spot. When I thought about where I’d prefer the bird… I couldn’t think of anything better. This was taken at St. John’s of the Divine. The World’s largest Cathedral.

puppyiconAs the month goes on, it gets harder and harder to choose photos. I’ve decided to take this opportunity to go through photos I had taken before but not thought to post as I am mostly a portrait photographer.

bubbleiconYesterday I went to see ZOMBIELAND, which was totally awesome, and after the movie I hung around and took a few photos. Sadly, the Naked Cowboy was off duty that day.

One of the many street vendors was blowing bubbles around and I caught  a photo of one of them. Nothing too fancy or special, but a lonely bubble trying to reach so high before popping.

finchThe fourth photo in this series is a photo os the cutest little Finch around. I know that’s a bold claim, but as I was sitting in Central Park he kept flying at my feet and looking up at me. People would pass, he’d get spooked, fly away, then when the coast was clear, he’d fly right back. He was fairly awesome.

tennisstarToday’s photo was taken during the US Open. One of the former athletes was with his two daughters and son with one of his girls perched on top his head making funny faces at me. She was so adorable, I couldn’t resist.

I know the EXIF is terrible, I went from shooting tennis to her and didn’t want to miss anything, so I didn’t adjust.

» Website
I was just checking the web statistics for my website over the past couple of months... and I'm speechless. In August I had over 100k in hits and so many of you on my friends list went to my website. You guys are amazing. <33 I love you all so much. And with Funimation plugging me this month for doing some photography for them, this month is going to be amazing as well. Some results, I was a little surprised about, but I'm not going to let it bother me.

As a result, I feel as if a "reward" or sorts is in order. So this is what I'm offering seeing as it is "Thirty One days means 31 photos in October".

If there is anything anyone on my friends list would like to see photos of here around New York or have an idea they would like to see implemented, I will try my best to accomplish it!

If it goes well, it might have to carry into next month! So give it some thought. To give you some examples, maybe you want to see photos of the Statue of Liberty, the last phone booth or even Times Square.

Comments are screened and I will post whoever suggested the idea in my post :3 Tomorrow a new photo will be posted and I already have it picked out! Think you guys will like it.
» Daily Photo Post for the Month of October: Part One

brooklyniconI’m actually a bit behind on my blog as I have not posted anything from the US Open here. I’ll do that at some point in the near future.

This month I have vowed to post a new photo that I have taken every day. Photos will be new or relatively new and will be anything from cityscapes to trash on the street.

So here is the first photo for this month, a city scape of Brooklyn from the tip of Manhattan.
